On June 22, the CSC partnered with the Future of Film Showcase (FOFS) to present an afternoon of visual storytelling insights at Toronto’s Paradise Theatre. The event featured a compelling talk by Oscar-nominated cinematographer and ShotDeck founder Lawrence Sher, ASC, followed by a special panel discussion with CSC members Catherine Lutes CSC, Luc Montpellier CSC ASC, and associate members Jordan Oram and Gayle Ye.
CSC Board Member and Education Committee Co-Chair Christina Ienna co-presented the event and helped bring the collaboration to life. “This collaboration began when my friend Eric Bizzarri, CEO and Co-Founder of Future of Film Showcase, reached out with the idea of highlighting Canadian cinematographers in a meaningful way,” according to Ienna.
Attendees were treated to Sher’s candid reflections on his career journey. “Lawrence’s authenticity… that kind of honesty is powerful, especially for emerging filmmakers who are navigating their own paths,” Ienna said. “He was both inspiring and genuinely delightful to listen to.”
The event reinforced the CSC’s commitment to mentorship, education, and community building. “When we collaborate, share knowledge and lift each other up, we all benefit,” Ienna noted. “That sense of community and mutual support is something we deeply value.”
