On May 4, the CSC launched a timely and much-needed conversation with “Balancing Parenting, Relationships & Social Connection in the Film Industry,” a Zoom-based seminar led by former cinematographer and Gestalt therapist Naomi Wise. Presented in partnership with Cooke Optics, the two-hour session welcomed 25 attendees and offered a safe, reflective space to discuss the real-life impact of unpredictable work schedules, long hours, and the emotional toll of life in film.
Prompted by a CSC member’s request for a workshop on work/life balance and parenting, the session explored topics ranging from industry support gaps to the challenges of maintaining relationships. Breakout room discussions encouraged open dialogue, and participants expressed interest in deeper dives into mental health resources, communication strategies, and set culture.
This session was intentionally broad, setting the stage for an ongoing seminar series focused on well-being in the industry. Future events will narrow in on topics like depression, boundary-setting, and navigating industry pressures.
The CSC remains committed to fostering community conversations that lead to meaningful change for members at every career and life stage.
