December 14, 2022 – In support of its Future is Calling campaign, The Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC) will receive a large combination of cash and in-kind support from William F. White International Inc. (WFW).
The Future is Calling campaign, launched in November 2021, aims to break down barriers that marginalized communities face in accessing the film and television industry through national outreach, education, internship opportunities and online educational resources. The campaign has received support from industry, government, and philanthropic funders.
“Over the past two years, CSC leadership have been increasingly focused on addressing how racial, economic and gender injustice are acting as a barrier to accessing the industry. With the support of WFW, with whom we have had a longstanding partnership spanning several decades, we are able to amplify our work and break down those barriers,” says Guy Godfree, csc, Chair of the CSC board of directors.
The contribution from WFW will be used for education and training, with a special emphasis on supporting new talent from diverse backgrounds. This will help drive the campaign’s goals to offer valuable in-person learning opportunities, as well as robust online content so people can supplement their learning in whatever part of the country they live.
“WFW is committed to supporting young people interested in a career in film and television, ensuring they have access to skills development and training,” says Trevor Huys, Vice President of Camera and Virtual Production, WFW. “As a CSC partner, we recognize and appreciate the important work the CSC is doing to help young, underrepresented people access the industry, and we are privileged to be in a position to contribute towards building the next generation of diverse talent behind the camera.”
The CSC is on target to raising $3.75 million by the end of 2022.
Paul Bronfman, Chairman/CEO of Comweb Corp., Co-Chairman/Senior Advisor WFW and Chair of The Future is Calling Campaign adds, “We are thrilled to have WFW make a significant contribution to support new talent, which we know will create the foundation of the industry for years to come.”
